PROFILEAn experienced and results-driven person, confident in handling commonly used computer software packages in analytical, administrative and financial environments. Has a responsive and problem-solving approach to workplace challenges and is able to work effectively as part of a team, or on own initiative. ACHIEVEMENTS Whilst working with the Una Group, I was able to create and develop a working Access database to handle the creation of invoices, (and saving of such information), as well as a fully functioning database system to keep track of items in the warehouse, the efficient handling of incoming and outgoing goods, together with various search systems for finding goods, the ability to output stock sheets, to check discrepancies in stock, and various other facilities. Whilst working voluntarily with the Society for Storytelling, I was able to create an on-line searchable website of storytellers in the U.K. This is in addition to the membership database that I have created and adapted/updated for many years, and which works successfully to handle various needs. Whilst working on a project to input key organisations for Plymouth parents onto a database, I was able to refine the existing database substantially in order to handle varied tasks, including a search facility and the ability to generate an indexed listing of the organisations for circulation to local groups and organisations, and at a later stage to put the information onto a searchable website. Whilst working as a Research Assistant, I have been able to enter considerable amounts of information into databases at a very fast rate and with very few errors. (I have been able to use various ‘tricks' to do this, whether with computer programming, or with the use of macros in Access.) Whilst working as a Research Assistant, I was able to take occupational information, manipulate it using SPSS, to show trends in a graphical manner - creating a ‘map' that made trends in the data visible. I T SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Creating Access databases for a multitude of purposes, and manipulating/analysing data inside them, sometimes with the use of macros. Analysing data using Excel, including the use of pivot tables. Use of SAGE for handling office financial requirements. Designing, creating and updating websites, including interactive mySQL databases / PHP programming. Creative and problem solving approach, especially with the use of computer software applications. Flexible and helpful attitude, whether with team mates or members of the public. Conscientious and methodical, especially when entering or appraising data. Meeting deadlines and working effectively under pressure. Good communication skills, especially in discussing/thinking about more efficient administrative systems.
LAST JOB (see elsewhere for other jobs)THE UNA GROUP Creating a database and associated administrative tasks 09/2008 – 03/2009Creating a database from scratch to handle invoicing and the various tasks associated with keeping track and issuing paperwork for incoming, outgoing and stored goods in a busy warehouse. Using that database for reporting on and correcting information about the items in the warehouse.
QUALIFICATIONS
COURSES TAKENIn addition to the above, I have been able to take many courses at the Universities that I have worked in, and most notable amongst there are: Designing Access databases (version 2, and 2000), Advanced use of Excel (pivot tables, and summaries, and macros), Frontpage for webdesign.; GIS package – ArcInfo. I have taken evening classes in the use of Dreamweaver for website design, and also programming with VBA. I also took a PGCE to teach in Secondary schools, (Mathematics), but was unable to gain the qualification. I did gain considerable experience in teaching at an individual level, on this course and subsequently. LEISURE ACTIVITIES/INTERESTSI enjoy watercolour painting, and I have an interest in artistic endeavours, and for visiting art galleries / attending talks on art. I am a member of the Lamorna Society, (A Society interested in Cornish artists and their activities), for which I have created a website. I like walking and otherwise enjoying quite areas in the country. I enjoy making and updating websites, (see especially www.sfsdir.org.uk - a database driven directory of storytellers in the U.K.), as well as having worked voluntarily to create a membership database for the Society of Storytellers.
